Tony O’Donnell was elected to Kildare County Council on June 5, 2009. He represents the Kildare Local Electoral Area and is a member of the Fine Gael group on KCC.
He is particularly interested in promoting sustainable living in Kildare through the provision of local employment and more supports for the community\voluntary sector; better public transport; efficient investment of public money; adequate education and health facilities; and ensuring the viability of rural communities.

Bio
Tony is a 30 year old engineer living in Kildare Town. He is a graduate of TCD, holding a PhD in Computer Science and a BA BAI in engineering from the college. He was educated locally in Milltown NS and Newbridge College.
He currently works in commercial research with a large multinational, but he has previously worked as a consultant on social services projects in the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand and as a third year engineering lecturer at TCD.
He is currently serving as the Chairman of Round Towers GFC in Kildare Town. He is also a member of the Kildare Derby Festival Committee, founder of the Kildare Rail Users’ Group, a reader at St Brigid’s Parish Church, secretary of the Drumcree Court Residents’ Association and an active member of his community.
Tony was first elected to KCC in 2009, but he has been politically active for many years. He served as Deputy President of TCD Students’ Union in 2001/2002. He was a candidate for Seanad Éireann in 2002. He has also served as Vice-Chair of the National Union of Journalists (Press & PR Branch), Vice-Chair & PRO of Kildare South Fine Gael and he represented the EU at the 2004 Copenhagen Consensus conference, where he presented a paper on conflict resolution in the Third World.

Family
Tony is the son of Dan and Catherine (née Ennis) O’Donnell. Dan is originally from Letterkenny, and came to Kildare as a Department of Agriculture official in the 1970s. Catherine is a member of the long-established Ennis family of Guidenstown between Kildare and Rathangan. She worked as a nurse in the district until recently, where she cared for the elderly in Monasterevin, Rathangan and Kildare.
Tony has one brother Mark and sister Emer.
